When it comes to education, every student deserves a fair shot at success. This principle is embraced by the Lake Washington Schools Foundation (LWSF), and its recent success is a testament to the power of community compassion.

In just two weeks from the launch of its Summer School fundraising campaign in June, the LWSF achieved a remarkable feat by raising an astonishing $23,250. This outpouring of generosity from compassionate donors ensures that students in the Lake Washington School District (LWSD) have equal access to invaluable educational opportunities, regardless of their financial circumstances.

Katy Philips, the Executive Director at the Foundation, expressed her thanks, stating, “We are overwhelmed with gratitude for the compassionate donors who came together to raise a staggering $23,250 to support summer school in the LWSD. Your steadfast support has empowered us to profoundly impact the lives of students in our school district.”

This profound impact is felt through the funds raised, which were allocated to provide scholarships and transportation assistance for students facing homelessness. For these students, school is more than just a place of learning; it’s a safe haven offering stability, meals, and resources that might otherwise be out of reach. The significance of this support becomes even more pronounced during school breaks.

The campaign’s success brings a ray of hope in the form of summer school. It offered these students a chance to not only continue their academic journey but also benefit from the positive and secure environment that schools provide.

These summer school scholarships aren’t just a lifeline; they’re a gateway to a brighter future. STEM, Drama, Integrated Arts, and Writing Camps offer a space where these students can learn and grow, fostering an environment that encourages their potential to flourish.

Additionally, the campaign’s success enriched the experiences of students attending Title 1 Summer Schools. Funding was allocated to engaging activities and covering transportation costs, allowing students who may not otherwise have the opportunity to explore new learning opportunities and discover their passions during the summer break. Kelly Pease, Director of Learning and Teacher for K-5 at the Lake Washington School District, shared, “Students at our Title 1 Summer Program were able to participate in enrichment activities that included visits from the Reptile Man, local artists, and our fire department.”

A portion of the funds was also dedicated to scholarships for grade enhancement, a commitment to helping all students excel academically and achieve their full potential.

This campaign’s success was made possible by the incredible support of donors, each playing a vital role in this transformative journey. Their contributions symbolize a collective effort to build bridges toward education, transcending barriers and providing students with the tools they need to reach their full potential.

The Lake Washington Schools Foundation extends its deepest appreciation to each and every donor who played a role in this campaign’s success. Together, they are creating a brighter future where every student can overcome obstacles and reach their full potential.

The impact of this campaign on students’ lives is immeasurable, and the Lake Washington Schools Foundation remains committed to ensuring that every student has equal access to exceptional educational opportunities.
