LWSF Supports Food-Insecure Students over the Summer

Lake Washington Schools Foundation is partnering with LWSD and Nourishing Networks to provide Food Vouchers to over 1,000 LWSD Families this summer.

The past two years have been tough on many families, causing increased food insecurity for students throughout our district. With the amount of need on the rise and the available resources declining, this summer will be especially challenging for many families.

“One of my jobs is helping to connect students and families with outside community resources,” says Madison Lecompte, School Counselor at Clara Barton Elementary School. “During the school year, we provide access to meals and food throughout the day; however, once summer begins these services do not happen within the school.”

In order to bridge this gap, Lake Washington Schools Foundation has partnered with LWSD and Nourishing Networks to provide Food Vouchers to over 1,000 LWSD Families this summer. This is part of The Foundation’s year-long, $300,000 effort to address student food insecurity in the LWSD community, which includes the Pantry Packs weekend food program.

Madison explains, “Helping to provide additional resources for food over the summer impacts our school community immensely, and I honestly can’t thank LWSF enough for their willingness to help!”

This life-changing work could not happen without the generous contributions of our donors. Thank you for trusting us to act on your behalf to ensure that no child in our community goes hungry.

Support our fight against food insecurity by making a donation today.
