How the New Teacher Grant funds were used
All recipients were asked to complete a feedback form that
provided information about how the funds were spent, the value of
the funds, how the grant process functioned for the teachers and
any other comments they wanted to share. Of the 84 new teacher grant
recipients, 19 returned the feedback form (23%) and 14 wrote personal
thank you cards (17%). |
Materials/supplies purchased and how it enhanced learning
The comments from the teachers stressed the value of being
able to purchase important items for their classroom that helped
to improve the classroom environment, organize supplies, supplement
current materials provided and provide for professional resources
to enhance their teaching practices. Examples of the types of items
purchased and New Teacher Grant Recipient comments are below.
1) Improve the Classroom Environment –
• posters that supported current standards for easy
reminders for students
• wall calendars that are utilized on a daily basis, plants,
• whiteboards, flannel board and easel that help children
to focus in the appropriate location
• pillows, stool, desk lamp and CD/tape player to provide
items that increase the overall comfort in the classroom.
2) Create a more organized classroom –
• Necessary filing materials and software to organize teachers’
and students’ work such as files, folders, binders.
• Crates, bins, trays so students know where to put their
schoolwork and supplies and for supplemental materials.
3) Supplemental supplies and materials for the classroom –
• Math manipulatives and reading games to provide
another way to explore the curriculum.
• Art supplies and musical instruments to help students utilize
their creativity.
• Extra school and office supplies to ensure that all children
have the supplies necessary to be successful.
• Stickers and prizes to help reinforce positive student behavior.
